Facundo Buonanotte will be laughing as Leeds United look set to miss out on top transfer target

Leeds United

The 49ers set out to add some reinforcements to the Leeds United team to see out the rest of the season. The Whites are currently in the battle for survival, and are currently above the relegation zone.

The Premier League table is taking shape and it is clear that the main battle will be between Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, West Ham and Burnley to see who goes down. And in the January window, some of these clubs have made some serious additions to their squads. West Ham and Forest brought in some names on deadline day and now Leeds will be looking over their shoulders.

Daniel Farke’s side only managed to sign Facundo Buonanotte last month, after failing to land Jorgen Strand Larsen. When the window closed, it was revealed the financial structure of the deal was the reason why it never materialized.

Leeds United target Harry Wilson to make shock U-turn

The end of the January window was similar to the summer, when Leeds struck out trying to sign Harry Wilson on deadline day. Now, The Standard are reporting that the Fulham star is that the London club are stepping up contracts talks in order to keep the midfielder. Wilson mentioned in an interview earlier this season after the failed move to Elland Road that he was happy at Fulham.

With his form this season, he will definitely attract suitors if he sees out his contract in the summer. But Marco Silva’s side have ramped up efforts to keep the Welsh international at their club. This could ultimately see Leeds United out of the race for the 28-year old in the summer.

Facundo Buonanotte to benefit from decision

If Harry Wilson does choose to renew his contract at Fulham, one of the biggest beneficiaries will be Facundo Buonanotte. The Argentine pushed to cut short his loan in order to join Leeds United in this window, fully confident of establishing himself in the first team. He is yet to enter the lineup, but has a lot of games till the end of the campaign.

Everything is set up perfectly for the Brighton loanee; if he performs well enough, he could be the first signing Leeds make this summer. The Whites missing out on a potential deal for Harry Wilson would be huge for the attacking midfielder since they play the same position. Now, it is up to the 21-year old to impress and seal a permanent deal in the summer.
