Tim Howard has weighed in on the conversation surrounding Michael Carrick potentially landing the Manchester United head coach role beyond this season.
It’s been over three weeks since Michael Carrick was appointed Manchester United head coach until the end of the season. The task at hand is to qualify for the Champions League, but a positive start under the 44-year-old sees United positioned fourth in the Premier League.
United lacked consistency under Ruben Amorim and continued to drop points and lose under caretaker head coach Darren Fletcher, but the Red Devils have a chance to make it four consecutive wins when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
While Carrick has been enjoying better results, it has raised further questions about Amorim and his struggles at Old Trafford.
Are you ANNOYED that Ruben Amorim never sent a message to the fans after being sacked?

Amorim will tell his side of the story at the end of the season, after deciding to wait and not plant a distraction for Carrick and the players while there’s still plenty of football to play.
It’s no secret that Amorim left United after his relationship with Jason Wilcox as football director suddenly worsened over the festive period.

Tim Howard believes Ruben Amorim rant could help Michael Carrick
A rant that led to Amorim getting the sack at United saw him question Ineos and his status as head coach.

Amorim told the press that he was the manager rather than head coach, even though he had accepted the role as head coach just 14 months prior.
Former United goalkeeper Tim Howard believes Carrick would be happy with the head coach role and that may stand to him at the end of the season, if he can make a case to take the job permanently.
Howard argues that may not be the case for other candidates at the top of United’s wish list.
Speaking on his Unfiltered Podcast, Howard said: “I’ve been on record saying I like Michael Carrick, I don’t think he necessarily deserves the job.
“I think they should go get a big manager, right? A guy, a Southgate, a Tuchel, a Poch, someone like that.
“But again, the problem is, and this is where I think it helps Michael Carrick, is the reason Amorim left. We’ve talked about this, is because he wanted to be the manager, not the head coach. He didn’t want to be dictated to, he wanted to be the manager.
“And the guys that I just mentioned are not coming to a football club even as big as Man United and go, ‘All right, I’ll you guys tell me what players assign. You guys tell me how to play.’
“No. So the board will run into the same problems if they go get a bigger manager. So, that might help Michael Carrick.”
Carrick needs to keep winning football matches if he wants the head coach role beyond this season. Hopefully, he can make it four wins from as many games on Sunday.
How many wins in a row will Michael Carrick make it now?
Three wins from three… it's a perfect start!

What did Tim Howard win at Man Utd?
Howard spent four years at Old Trafford before continuing a Premier League career at Everton.
The American goalkeeper won the FA Cup in 2004 and the League Cup in 2006, but he wasn’t trusted as a long-term option for the first-choice keeper role.
Howard now works as a pundit, sharing his thoughts on the beautiful game.
He made 77 appearances during his time at United.
