Mainoo would love him: Man Utd tipped to sign £100m star ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea after…

Manchester United have been tipped to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali during the 2026 summer transfer window by the Metro, and he might just be the perfect addition to their squad ahead of next season.

The Red Devils were already in the market for two top central midfielders in the summer transfer window, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, even before it was announced last month that Casemiro would be leaving Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The departure of the experienced Brazilian will leave Man United short of options in the middle of the park, with Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte the only senior options left at the club.

United Urged to Sign Sandro Tonali

While United have been heavily linked to the likes of Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba, they have been urged to make a move for another Premier League midfielder instead by Danny Simpson.

Speaking via the Metro, the former United full-back said:

‘I think Tonali would work really well in that United midfield. I think he would complement Kobbie Mainoo really nicely, because he gets about the pitch so well.

‘Obviously, he’s been a top player for Newcastle. He’s good on the ball, he’s strong, he’s physical, he’d be a brilliant player in there in many regards.

‘Also, he’s the type of player that I think could wear a Man Utd shirt. It’s not easy, that, and I feel like he could wear it with the pressure and deal with it."

There could be big demand for the Italy international this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester City both credited with an interest in the 'world-class' 25-year-old, who is valued at £100m according to the report.

In addition, according to David Ornstein, Arsenal were offered the opportunity to sign Tonali on deadline day and explored a move, although they never made contact with Newcastle.

GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano told our Market Madness podcast this week that the Gunners have appreciated Tonali for a while, so a summer approach could happen.

Mainoo Would Love Him

It was only a couple of months ago that Mainoo seemed to have no future under Ruben Amorim at Man United, but now he could be a key player next season if he maintains his recent performances under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

If United want a player who would complement the England international in the middle of the park, Tonali could be the perfect option.

The all-action 25-year-old loves to get around the pitch and he isn't afraid to use his body and put his foot in either, while he also has that quality on the ball too.

The duo could prove to be a successful one in the long-term for United if they're willing to pay big money for him.
