Dwight McNeil’s Everton sale collapsed in the 11th hour of Deadline Day
The two had clearly been planning their next chapter in London but the Eagles pulled the plug on their Deadline Day agreement. The dramatic U-turn came despite them agreeing terms with Everton and McNeil undergoing a medical.
This means McNeil will remain with the Toffees for the rest of the season but he is ‘not part of the plans’ at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Former chief Manchester United scout Mick Brown believes Everton will revisit the negotiation table in the summer to strike a deal for the winger.
‘Other clubs will be interested’ in signing Dwight McNeil
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown reflected on the collapsed Deadline Day transfer.
“I was surprised to see that deal hadn’t gone through. It looked like he was on his way to Palace, the deal was agreed with Everton and he’d done a medical, but they pulled out of it for whatever reason,” he said.
“These things happen in football and I expect Palace will have their reasons for their decision.”
Everton ‘expected’ to sell Dwight McNeil in the summer
McNeil is ‘not part of the plans’ at Everton moving forwards and the club are expected to revisit talks of him leaving once the summer transfer window opens. Brown says the player will already be assessing his options ahead of the 2025/26 season but it is ‘highly doubtful’ that Crystal Palace will go in for him again.
“McNeil now will have to be looking for other opportunities, because Everton were obviously prepared to let him go because he’s not part of the plans,” Brown continued.
“If that’s the case now, it’ll be the case in the summer and I expect they’ll be looking to move him on. Whether Palace come back in for him, I highly doubt it because as I say they had their reasons for pulling out, but there will be other clubs interested.”
Crystal Palace completed the signing of Jorgen Strand Larsen on Deadline Day as they prioritised the arrival of new attackers. The former Wolves star joined the likes of Brennan Johnson and Evann Guessand over the line as the Eagles look to move up the table from their current 15th place in the Premier League table.
