‘Bizarre’ January effort for Brentford man detailed – Club ‘considered everything’

Dutch giants Ajax asked about a potentially ‘bizarre’ return for Jordan Henderson from Brentford in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Voetbal International, via Soccer News. Their journalist, Lentin Goodijk, provides the bizarre details today.

According to VI’s information, Ajax were keen on bringing Henderson back to Amsterdam from Brentford in the January window.

The Englishman only left the Dutch club in the summer for the Bees. He had often been the focus of ire at Ajax, due to his large wage packet. They were keen to move him on because of that as part of an overall effort to reduce costs at the club.

But Ajax have struggled without a recognised number six in midfield since. They’ve been hunting for an experience player to fill the ‘significant void’ that Henderson left behind when he departed.

That led Ajax to consider moving for their former player once again. That came about as Henderson had lost his starting place at Brentford under Keith Andrews.

The veteran had been a regular at the start of the season, but has found himself out of the starting 11 more often as the Bees have surprised everyone under Andrews’ leadership. Ajax saw an opportunity and it seems efforts were made.

“Ajax has really cast a lot of lines,” Goodijk explained.

“They even considered casting a line for Jordan Henderson. They even considered bringing him back. At one point, he lost his starting spot at Brentford. They really considered everything, which is very painful.”
