Man United are preparing to face Tottenham at Old Trafford this coming weekend.

Romero sparks controversy with Tottenham rant

There is potentially no better time for Man United to play Tottenham, as they are in an unsettled position at the moment, following their captain, Christian Romero's, social media complaint about the limited number of players available.

Just minutes after the transfer deadline, Romero took a shot at the Tottenham board, as he said it was ‘disgraceful’ that Spurs only had 11 fit players available during their game against Manchester City last weekend. Romero himself was ill, but played through it to try and get the result.

He posted on Instagram: “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible. I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available — unbelievable but true and disgraceful.”

The timing of Romero’s post was very telling, as he posted it just minutes after the transfer window closed, in a window which saw Spurs sign Conor Gallagher in midfield, and nobody else of note. It means that the atmosphere around Tottenham is very fractured at the moment, and so United couldn’t be playing them at a better time.

Man United have a lack of injury concerns

It has been quite the opposite story at Old Trafford this season, as Carrick hasn’t been able to deal with many injury problems. They have just three names who could miss the Tottenham game based on the most recent injury reports.

Firstly, Patrick Dorgu is out for several weeks after he suffered an unfortunate hamstring injury against Arsenal last month. The Danish international will be a big miss, because he’s been transformed into an attacking winger since Carrick joined the club.

Matthijs De Ligt is also set to miss the game on Saturday, as he is dealing with a lower back injury that he’s been recovering from since December. He is still set to miss a couple more weeks before he can return, as he isn’t even back in training yet.

Mason Mount is a doubt for Saturday because he picked up a knock in training, which forced him to miss the Fulham game. However, his issue isn’t expected to be a major problem, meaning he is more likely to be available at the weekend.
