Robin van Persie reaches out to ex-Man Utd teammate Jesse Lingard over possible reunion

Robin van Persie is keen on the prospect of signing former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard at Feyenoord.

Jesse Lingard is renowned as a graduate from Manchester United’s academy who became a regular under Louis van Gaal.

The English midfielder would enjoy a handful of very memorable moments, with his highlight coming in the FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace in 2016 when he scored the winner to make it 2-1 in extra time.

Lingard left Old Trafford in 2022 and went on to play for Nottingham Forest before signing for FC Seoul. The 33-year-old spent almost two years at the South Korean club, but became a free agent in December when he announced his departure.

The Eredivisie side is currently second in the league table, 12 points adrift of leaders PSV Eindhoven.

It is now being reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke that Van Persie has sounded out Lingard over a potential move to Feyenoord.

Lingard could join Feyenoord in a Bosman deal since he is currently a free agent and seeking a new club.

The former United midfielder is expected to return to Europe, but his next move remains a mystery as more clubs become potential suitors.

Lingard has already shown that he is not afraid to leave his comfort zone, especially after adapting to life in South Korea.

The prospect of working with an icon like Van Persie could appeal to Lingard, but only time will tell if a move will materialise.

Robin van Persie’s record as Feyenoord manager

Van Persie has taken charge of 45 matches as Feyenoord manager.

Feyenoord have been victorious in 23 of those, drawing four and losing a further 18.

They have scored 97 goals and conceded 71, collecting a total of 73 points in the Eredivisie.

Van Persie’s preferred formation is 4-3-3.
