“Big surprise” – Leeds United set to land £4m from West Ham with imminent decision: Journalist

Leeds United sold Crysencio Summerville to West Ham back in the summer of 2024, and are yet to see a significant chunk of the winger’s add-ons materialise.

Leeds, West Ham and others are embroiled in a tense relegation battle as the Irons look to claw back an eight-point deficit on the Whites.

This weekend could be a vital one as Leeds host Nottingham Forest on Friday. Meanwhile, West Ham travel to 19th-placed Burnley.

Crysencio Summerville hitting West Ham form at worst possible time for Leeds United’s survival bid

Either way the relegation battle goes between Leeds and the Irons this season, it’ll be an intriguing one looking at Crysencio Summerville.

Leeds sold the Dutchman to West Ham in 2024 for £25million plus further add-ons, after losing the playoff final to Southampton.

He’s been a slow burner at the London Stadium, but Summerville has sparked into form under Nuno Espirito Santo of late. His strike away at Tottenham helped them to the first of back-to-back Premier League wins, then scoring in their 3-1 win over Sunderland. After that, his stunner at Stamford Bridge was cancelled out by a Chelsea fightback.

For Leeds watching on, the last thing our survival bid needed was Summerville finally getting joy cutting in from the left wing at a Premier League level.

In the survival battle, we’re potentially either going to see Leeds relegated the side that Summerville left us for, or see Summerville relegate us himself. A chaotic turn of events either way, but hopefully one we come out on the right side of.

Leeds United set to bank extra add-ons from Crysencio Summerville, Netherlands call-up

Importantly for Leeds, we are due more money from those Summerville add-ons if (or when) he gets a senior international call-up, likely with the Netherlands.

It’s claimed Leeds could gain as much as £4million if Summerville gets international recognition while at West Ham. And, that could be as soon as March.

That’s according to Voetbal International reporter Suleyman Ozturk, who tips the ex-Leeds winger for a call-up to Ronald Koeman’s squad in the March international break.

“He now gets such a return and high level… I think he plays so well at West Ham now,” Ozturk told SoccerNews.nl. “He is specifically a type of Noa Lang, a dribbler who can create something. With four goals and two assists in his last five games, Summerville is in top form at West Ham.

“That boy, I think, has the ambition to join the Orange. I think he’s in shape just the right time, so he has a chance to go to the World Cup. He can be the big surprise in the selection you didn’t expect six months ago.”

Crysencio Summerville finally showing Premier League potential – But Leeds United don’t want him to

It’s good to see Summerville is showing the Premier League quality we all knew he had. But, can he do it when we’re not in direct competition?

His form peaking when we’re fighting to relegate his West Ham side could be the ultimate irony this season if it doesn’t go our way. However, staying up at his expense would be a great moment to show how far we’ve come after losing at Wembley.

Adding an extra £4million to our coffers would be ideal in the meantime, though, and surely there’s not a Dutch left-winger that should be getting in his way right now.
