Newcastle United crashed out of the Carabao Cup after a Man City hammering over two legs.
Yet more defensive errors and shape cost them dear at the Etihad.
Omar Marmoush netted twice, one of which was laid out on a platter by Kieran Trippier, and a third was added in the first half hour by Tijjani Reijnders to put the hosts 5-0 up on aggregate. It killed the tie as a contest.
With it still alive Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon had chances to get United into the game, but squandered them poorly.
In the second half, United had plenty of ball and chances, largely due to the home side dropping off, but could only take one, a well struck Anthony Elanga finish, after a fine solo run. It was Newcastle’s first goal at this venue since Rafa Benitez was manager.
While the result was bad enough, the Magpies suffered another injury, to pile further woes on head coach Eddie Howe, as Anthony Gordon limped off with what looked like a hamstring issue.
