MUTV host picks out‘unseen’trait Diogo Dalot has that is‘absolutely brilliant’and commands respect

Diogo Dalot is one of Manchester United’s longest serving players, and has earned respect along the way.

The 2025/26 season has been a rollercoaster ride for Diogo Dalot, one of the Manchester United players currently flourishing under Michael Carrick.

Dalot set two of his season highs in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Fulham, showing how he is benefiting from playing in a back four again.

Under Ruben Amorim, Dalot was used as a wing-back, on both the left and right sides. Now he is back what he likes to do best, play as a right-back.

Diogo Dalot praised for not shying away

Diogo Dalot was signed under Jose Mourinho in 2018 as a teenager from Porto. And it has been quite a ride ever since.

Dalot has played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim since, including several interim bosses, now two spells under Michael Carrick.

This week Dalot gave an interview to United’s official podcast, where he provided positive feedback on the new coaching staff, and was even praised by club legend Denis Irwin.

At the end of the podcast, MUTV presenter and commentator Liam Bradford made a note to point out how personable Dalot always is.

Bradford explained how Dalot never shies away from giving interviews when United are performing poorly, always making himself available to front up when the going has invariably got tough.

He explained: “I’ve just got one more thing to say before we let you go, and that is from a point of view of somebody that works around the club, commentating on games of football, doing the pre=match and post-match interviews.

“One of the things that Diogo does that maybe goes unseen is that when things aren’t necessarily going right, Diogo is always one of those that will come and have a conversation with you after the game and look you in the eye and be honest and really front up.

“And I think that sometimes the stuff that goes on behind the scenes goes on unnoticed, and maybe fans might appreciate understanding that what Diogo and the leadership team do for for the Football Club is absolutely brilliant.”

Who is Manchester United’s best manager since Sir Alex Ferguson?

Dalot credits Ronaldo

During the interview Diogo Dalot was asked a quickfire question on the best player he ever played alongside.

It was not a surprise that Dalot’s immediate response was his Portugal colleague and close pal Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He changed my career,” Dalot explained, referencing the way he has adopted Ronaldo’s relentless off-field work rate.

During his controversial interview ahead of his United exit, Ronaldo picked out Dalot as the player who impressed him most.

The two will team up once more for Portugal at the World Cup, along with Bruno Fernandes.
