Newcastle United crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Manchester City last night, subsequently ending their chances of retaining their title.
The Magpies faced an uphill battle before a ball was kicked at the Etihad, with Eddie Howe’s side entering the second leg with a two-goal deficit after the previous clash at St James’ Park.
However, any chance of reaching the final were squashed by half-time of the clash in Manchester, after Pep Guardiola’s men romped into a three-goal lead on the night.

Anthony Elanga did manage to get his first goal for the club off the substitutes bench, but such an effort was ultimately too little too late, with the tie ending 5-1 on aggregate.
Given the scoreline, it’s no surprise that numerous starters failed to deliver, which could see Howe drop one man from his starting eleven after such a showing at the Etihad.
Nick Woltemade’s performance against Man City
After starting on the bench against Liverpool at the weekend, striker Nick Woltemade was handed a return to the starting eleven, but the German failed to take advantage of the chance handed his way.
The 23-year-old was replaced at halftime by Howe as a result of his lack of impact, with his numbers from his showing highlighting his lack of quality in Manchester.

During his 45-minute performance, the forward failed to register a single shot on goal, whilst also only registering 11 touches of the ball - with the forward often bypassed by the game.
Woltemade also failed to win any of the ground duels he entered, with the German unable to make a nuisance of himself when the ball did finally come in his direction.
The attacker didn’t manage to register a touch in the opposition box, whilst also failing to win any of the aerials he entered - now going 12 games without a goal in all competitions.
The Newcastle star who was as bad as Woltemade v Man City
Alongside Woltemade, numerous other Newcastle players failed to deliver against Manchester City, with Howe’s decision to operate with a back-five coming back to bite him.

Jacob Ramsey was asked to play in a deeper midfield role alongside Sandro Tonali, but registered the fewest touches of any player who featured for 90 minutes.
He also won just 44% of the ground duels he entered, whilst making two fouls - subsequently highlighting his lack of impact without the ball at his feet.
However, full-back Kieran Trippier was also asked to play in a more advanced role, which should have allowed the defender to have more of an impact in attacking areas.
Despite the call by the manager, such a move exposed his lack of pace in getting back into defensive areas, which saw the home side enjoy success down his side.

The 35-year-old was asked to mark the energetic Rayan Ait-Nouri, which no doubt impacted his performance, with the wing-back struggling to make an impact at either end.
When motoring forward, Trippier was responsible for putting key deliveries into the 18-yard box, but he only managed to complete 50% of his efforts in Manchester.

Defensively, the experienced defender also struggled, subsequently being dribbled past twice and committing one foul - often looking leggy in his old age.

Trippier also made just one interception and failed to win any of his aerial duels, which further reaffirms his struggles against Guardiola’s men last night.
To top off his dismal night, Trippier was handed a measly 4/10 match rating by Chronicle Live journalist Lee Ryder - further demonstrating his struggles.
After such a performance, it should be evident to Howe that the full-back is way past his best, with the 35-year-old no longer at the level needed for future success.
There’s no doubt that the player needs to be moved on in the near future, with his hierarchy needing to be brutal if they are to win any more silverware in the years ahead.
