The 41-year-old former United manager had only been at Old Trafford for 14 months before a fractured relationship with the Ineos regime led to his dismissal by the club.
Amorim’s exit as Man Utd head coach paved the way for Darren Fletcher to become the caretaker manager for two matches in charge of the Red Devils first-team squad.
Ineos subsequently brought Michael Carrick back to the Premier League club and the 44-year-old United legend is seeing out the rest of the season as interim head coach.

Man Utd are expected to announce a permanent successor to Ruben Amorim in the summer, with the tide now turning in Carrick’s favour after a scintillating start.
Carrick has already overseen three consecutive Premier League wins as interim United manager, including massive victories over Manchester City and Arsenal.
Sam Allardyce has asked if it is the “right decision” for Ineos to lean into the euphoria around Carrick and appoint him as the next permanent Man Utd boss at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, “Everybody wants him [Carrick]. Everybody. You know what I mean?
“But is it the right decision? That’s the biggest. The board are under so much pressure now again.
“They’re under so much pressure given the job given to them. Is it the right thing to do?

“It’s not from the heart. It’s from the mind.”

Sam Allardyce on Ruben Amorim after the Man Utd manager’s ill-fated reign at Old Trafford
Amorim was viewed as Ineos’ ‘main man’ to lead the Red Devils into a new era after Erik ten Hag was sacked as Red Devils head coach during the 2024-25 season.
Former England manager Allardyce has now insisted that Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in 2024, was unable to cope with the pressure of the Old Trafford hot seat.
Who do you think will be Man Utd manager at the start of the 2026/27 season?
🔮 Let us know who you believe will and should be in charge? Who will Ineos appoint?
“Is it the right thing to do? Because Amorim couldn’t handle Man United for me,” he continued.
“So, that’s why it’s a special sort of internal desire as a player and as the manager to survive at Man United and then become successful.
“So, you need to learn to live with it and flourish from it, not shrivel and end up getting sold on or losing your job as the manager.”
United are fourth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils will return to action against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
