The star in question has been a consistent performer for Tottenham this season.
Micky van de Ven has been the standout performer for Tottenham Hotspur in an otherwise underwhelming season.
The Dutchman has established himself as one of the Lilywhites’ star players since joining from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023 in a £43m deal. The central defender has also become a fans’ favourite, playing a pivotal role in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph last season as he made a vital acrobatic goal-line clearance to help earn our team a 1-0 final win over Manchester United in Bilbao.
Micky van de Ven has taken his game to another level under Thomas Frank’s tutelage, delivering consistent performances week in, week out. His influence on the pitch is clear for all to see, with the 24-year-old not only excelling in defending but also contributing with goals and assists. The defender has an impressive eight-goal contribution (seven goals and an assist) in 30 appearances, and it is unsurprising that Van de Ven is coveted by some of Europe’s top clubs.

Peter Schmeichel questions how Manchester United and Liverpool missed out on Micky van de Ven to Tottenham
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Van de Ven to leave Tottenham at the end of the season, while The Standard reporter George Sessions feels the central defender is a “Real Madrid” quality player.
Now, legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has questioned why Manchester United and Liverpool did not sign “fantastic” Van de Ven ahead of Tottenham in 2023. The Dane thinks the 24-year-old has been a “revelation” in the Premier League, with his speed and understanding of the game valuable qualities to play an attacking style of football.
“I think he has been a revelation,” Peter Schmeichel said on Viaplay (h/t Tipsbladet).
“I think he is a fantastic player. He has a really, really good understanding of the game, and his speed is so valuable if you want to play offensive football.
“I sometimes think that a club like Manchester United or maybe even Liverpool should look for someone like him. Why didn’t they discover a player like him?”

Can Tottenham keep hold of Van de Ven in the summer?
With Liverpool agreeing a big-money deal with Rennes to sign the highly-rated defender Jeremy Jacquet on transfer deadline day, Manchester United or other European giants may come calling for Van de Ven’s services in the summer. With Spurs looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League via the Premier League, Van de Ven is reportedly reluctant to sign a new contract at N17 as he is questioning the direction the club is heading in.
If Man United or any other club can offer him Champions League football next campaign, the Netherlands international may be tempted to leave Tottenham. However, the defender still having more than three-and-a-half years in his contract puts the Lilywhites in a commanding position. That, coupled with Thomas Frank calmly addressing the recent rumours surrounding Van de Ven, should give the fans hope of watching the speedy Dutchman wear the famous white strip.
