Everton signing ruled out after scouts witnessed him drop 'an absolute stinker' of a…

Everton were linked with several players over the winter window that did not make the move to Merseyside.

There may well be a large number of Everton fans who are disappointed by the lack of business done.

David Moyes has admitted Everton need a new right-back having searched for one since he returned to the club last January.

Despite this, the Toffees are heading into the remainder of the campaign with the same options he started with on Merseyside.

A number of potential names were highlighted throughout January, but the Blues never made their move.

If you are David Moyes, who would be your starting right-back for the remainder of the season? 🤔

Moyes will now be left waiting until the summer after one right-back scouted by Everton failed to impress in the game representatives attended.

Everton scouts unimpressed with Brooke Norton-Cuffy

It was reported last month that Everton held an interest in right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy of Genoa.

Clearly, he was a player who was on Everton’s radar last month as scouts were even sent to watch him in Serie A action.

Speaking on The View From The Bullens’ Patreon account, one club insider shared details of the failed scouting mission to watch him live.

Deadline day is now done… what’s your thoughts, Toffees? 😬

“We looked at a number of full-backs, Norton-Cuffy. We actually went out to Genoa and watched him,” he said.

“And in typical Everton fashion, he then got taken off at half-time because he was having an absolute stinker.

“Everton went out to watch him a couple of times and they were not fully sold on him. They felt they needed more time on him.”

Everton News columnist Alan Myers was told Norton-Cuffy was set to remain in Italy, with the right-back also seeing interest from the likes of Inter.

Clearly, the Blues were not sold on the 22-year-old defender, which goes to show the club are not in a position where they will panic buy players.

Everton correct not to buy for the sake of buying

Given there were such clear needs in the winter window, it was certainly a big frustration to see just one player signed.

Moyes was never convinced Everton would spend in January and that turned out to be the case, with Tyrique George signing on loan.

Ultimately, this is a move that will benefit the club in the summer when the transfer window comes around.

What it does also mean is that there can be no excuses made for a slow start to the summer window.
