Brian Brobbey: Shock Turkish claims of out-of-window Sunderland exit

Sunderland signed Brian Brobbey from Ajax on the last summer deadline day.

The Netherlands international had a slow start to his life at the Stadium of Light as Régis Le Bris initially used him as a substitute.

Last October, the Dutch press raised concerns over his ability to adapt to the Premier League. Former Ajax manager John van ‘t Schip said the Sunderland player is ‘vulnerable physically’.

The striker has turned things around and started in 10 of the 19 league matches for the Black Cats. Le Bris’ decision to hand him minutes has paid off as he’s scored five goals, three of those in the last five matches.

Brobbey’s turnaround at Sunderland has pleased the Dutch media, but they aren’t alone.

Sabah on Thursday report Fenerbahçe have already set their sights on the 24-year-old. Although the winter market in the UK closed on Monday, the Turkish window is open until tomorrow.

The Yellow Canaries are looking to bring in a new No.9 before Friday’s deadline and have three main targets. This includes the Sunderland man, Al-Hilal’s Darwin Núñez and Marcos Leonardo.

According to the newspaper, the former Liverpool man isn’t keen on joining the Istanbul club. The Saudi Arabian club are open to letting Leonardo leave, and he is also open to a move.

Despite this, Sabah state: ‘The player with the highest probability of transfer is Brian Brobbey… ‘

Fenerbahçe have made an offer to Sunderland to sign the Dutchman on loan with an option to buy.

The report further adds the Turkish club have held talks with the frontman and have reached an agreement with him, which is obviously highly questionable.

Sunderland’s stance isn’t mentioned. It would be a shock if Le Bris’ side were to sanction a move outside the transfer window.
