Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey is reportedly attracting interest from Turkey
Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has emerged as a transfer target for Turkish giants Fenerbahce, according to reports.
The Dutchman only signed for the Black Cats during the summer window, completing a deadline day switch from boyhood club Ajax, and after a relatively slow start to life in England, has established himself as a key presence for Regis Le Bris’ side in recent weeks.
At the time of writing, Brobbey is Sunderland’s top goal-scorer this season, with five Premier League strikes to his name, and having supplanted Wilson Isidor at the point of attack, he has now started 10 of the Black Cats last 11 top flight outings.
And it would appear that his performances are catching the eye on the continent too. As per a fresh update from Turkish outlet Sabah, Fenerbahce are keen on the 24-year-old, with the transfer market for Super Lig clubs open until Friday. Domenico Tedesco’s side are understood to be on the hunt for a new centre-forward in the latter stages of the window, with Brobbey one of several options on their radar.
Elsewhere, Al-Hilal duo Darwin Nunez and Marcos Leonardo are also understood to be under consideration. According to Sabah, the former does not wish to join the Istanbul club, but the latter is open to a move. Nevertheless, it is stated that “the player with the highest probability of transfer is Brian Brobbey”.
To that end, it is claimed that Fenerbahce have made an offer to sign the player on loan with an option-to-buy clause attached. The report goes on to claim that the Turkish club have already held talks with Brobbey himself, and have reached an agreement over personal terms.
No mention is made of Sunderland’s stance on a prospective deal, but even if claims regarding a personal agreement with Brobbey are accurate, it is hard to envisage the Black Cats willingly sanctioning an exit for such a prominent member of their squad partway through their first campaign back in the Premier League - especially now that the January transfer window has closed in England.

What has Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris said about Brian Brobbey?
Speaking about Brobbey in the aftermath of Monday night’s 3-0 victory over Burnley at the Stadium of Light - a game in which the striker once again impressed with a dominant physical display at the point of attack - Sunderland head coach Le Bris said: “Brian is getting better.
“I think game after game you can see how strong he is in this part of the pitch. I think his teammates now want to play with him, want to feed him. When we get pressed man for man, for example, we still have this option to go long, then we can support and we can break the press. So it was really important today. He could have scored, maybe once or twice, but he worked really hard.”
