Casemiro is leaving Manchester United at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Man United will need to find a replacement for the 33-year-old, as they will want to sign a holding midfielder of the future who can thrive alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the United midfield.

Man United urged to sign Tonali

Despite being linked to several world-class midfield options, Man United have actually been told to make a move for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, who was linked with a move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

Former Man United defender and Premier League winner with Leicester City Danny Simpson tipped United to sign Tonali in a recent interview with The Metro. He said: “I think Tonali would work really well in that United midfield.

“I think he would complement Kobbie Mainoo really nicely, because he gets about the pitch so well. Obviously, he’s been a top player for Newcastle. He’s good on the ball, he’s strong, he’s physical, he’d be a brilliant player in there in many regards.

“Also, he’s the type of player that I think could wear a Man Utd shirt. It’s not easy, that, and I feel like he could wear it with the pressure and deal with it. He could definitely slot in there.”

Tonali was reportedly ‘offered’ by his agent to Arsenal on transfer deadline day after the Gunners suffered an injury to midfielder Mikel Merino; however, Newcastle retain that he isn’t for sale, and that Tonali is very happy at St James’ Park.

Which other midfielders could Man United sign?

The Red Devils have been linked to several Premier League midfielders ahead of Casemiro leaving in the summer. The most likely signing at this stage is Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who United enquired about in the summer transfer window. However, they opted to back off, as Brighton set a £100m price tag onto the 21-year-old.

Furthermore, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has also been linked with United, and he isn’t expected to cost as much as the other two. However, Wharton is also on Liverpool’s radar, so it could be difficult for Man United to get a deal done for the English midfielder.
