“I had conversations” – Brighton defender drops big transfer hints

Igor Julio is unlikely to leave Brighton this winter, despite multiple windows still being open. However, a return to Brazil later this year already features in discussions around the defender.

According to ESPN Brazil, the Brighton centre-back plans to stay in European football for now. The idea of a move back to Brazil points towards the middle of the year. That timing helps explain why recent speculation has not turned into talks this window.

Interest from Cruzeiro has existed, but only at an exploratory stage. The Brazilian side sounded out Igor Julio at the start of January. They did not submit a formal offer. That approach matches earlier reports, as Brighton continue to insist on a permanent transfer and rule out another loan.

The situation gained attention after Igor Julio replied to a Cruzeiro supporter on Instagram. When asked if a move could happen, the defender said: “I had some conversations with the club – my agent, actually. Let’s see what happens.”

Brazilian outlet Central da Toca confirmed the exchange and its authenticity. The report also states that Cruzeiro contacted the player’s camp to understand the possible conditions. That enquiry took place last year and has not progressed since.

For now, Brighton maintain the same position. The club want a sale and set a high valuation. As a result, an immediate move looks unlikely. Instead, Igor Julio’s situation points towards a possible summer return to Brazil, if conditions change later in the year.
