Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler makes transfer window statement after £25m man exits

Brighton vs Crystal Palace from the Amex Stadium this Sunday, 2pm

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler insists his squad is in good shape for the second half of the season.

Brighton - who have slipped to 13th in the Premier League - had a fairly quiet transfer window, with Pascal Gross re-joining from Borussia Dortmund and Matt O'Riley back after his loan at Marseille.

Wingers Brajan Gruda and Tommy Watson sealed loan moves away to RB Leipzig and Millwall respectively. Some fans are concerned Brighton are now light in wide areas, especially as Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh have both had injury problems this season.

The exit of £25m winger Gruda in particular took many by surprise.

"I'm really happy to work with this squad," said Hurzeler ahead of Brighton's clash with Crystal palace at the Amex Stadium this Sunday.

"Some players left the club for getting more game time but overall I still see we have a good depth in the squad, we have a lot of quality, a lot of potential.

“We have a good mix between old and young players and therefore it's now about us to make the best out of it, to have a good final part of the season and try to achieve the things we want to achieve.”

Brighton’s wide options

Brighton do have options in wide areas, although Diego Gomez, Matt O'Riley, Georginio and Ferdi Kadioglu are not natural wingers. Left back Maxim De Cuyper can also play in a more attacking role and youngster Harry Howell will also push more minutes.

“We are satisfied, I'm satisfied," added the German.

“I have a daily exchange with the persons who are responsible for that and therefore we all know that we have a strong squad and now it's about performance.

“Now it's about getting the results we want to have and for that we have the squad.

“We have the squad to achieve the things we want to achieve and therefore we go for it.”
