Dutch slant on surprise Sunderland transfer bid – Brian Brobbey interest genuine

Turkish side Fenerbahçe are interested in Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey and have been for some time.

That’s according to Soccer News. The Dutch website provides their own information on Fenerbahçe’s reported interest in Brobbey.

A report in Türkiye today stated that they had reached a personal agreement with Brobbey. They are reportedly looking to sign him on loan from Sunderland with an option to buy.

We covered those reports from Türkiye earlier today. While they were very confident, we’d be surprised if Sunderland were willing to sanction it given the transfer window is now closed. If anything, it felt like the Turkish reports were getting slightly ahead of themselves.

Soccer News’ information would tally with that. They can confirm, from their own sources, that Fenerbahçe have indeed made an offer for Brobbey. But that is as far as they’re willing to go. They do add that the Turkish side have approached the Dutch international as well.

So, according to their information, a bid has been made, and they’ve approached the Sunderland striker. They don’t confirm a personal agreement or how Sunderland have responded to the bid.

Their report, then, is definitely less optimistic than those coming from Türkiye. If anything, they play down the excitement for the time being.

As we’ve said, it would be strange for Sunderland to sanction it now. They need Brobbey, and with European football a distinct possibility, it makes no sense to weaken themselves. That’s especially the case when Fenerbahçe are only offering a loan.
