Tottenham contacted Michael Carrick over job before he joined Man United, now he can add to their regret

Manchester United chiefs will be feeling smug about their decision to appoint Michael Carrick as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

In his first three games in charge, Michael Carrick has a 100% win rate and has lifted Manchester United into fourth in the Premier League table.

Carrick has matched Ruben Amorim’s best winning streak already, and he is looking to win a fourth game on the bounce on Saturday when United host Tottenham.

Not only will Carrick be facing his former side from his playing days, but he’ll also be going head-to-head with a club that considered him for a managerial role.

Tottenham considered Michael Carrick appointment before Man Utd

When Ruben Amorim was sacked, it quickly became clear that it was a two-horse race between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Carrick for the interim role.

Solskjaer’s contract demands were too much, while Carrick was more than happy to accept a temporary position until the end of the season.

But before Ineos made that decision, talkSPORT report that Tottenham were considering Carrick for a managerial role.

With Thomas Frank under huge pressure in North London, it is said that Tottenham “sounded out” Carrick about the possibility of returning to his former club.

Carrick did return to a former club, but he ended up making his move to Manchester instead of London.

Michael Carrick can end Man United’s terrible Tottenham streak

United fans will still have sour memories of last season’s Europa League final, where Amorim suffered defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

It is certainly not the only time that Spurs have got the better of United in recent years, in fact the Red Devils have won none of their previous five meetings.

Much has changed since last season, though. Instead of Postecoglou and Amorim, it is Frank and Carrick who will shake hands on the touchline.

Tottenham can take confidence from their 2-2 draw with Manchester City last time out, but United are in red-hot form and will be favourites to take all three points.
