Flamengo Rekindle Talk of Vinícius Jr. Return as Contract Talks with Real Madrid Remain…

The connection between Vinícius Júnior and Flamengo has never fully disappeared, and the Brazilian club has now publicly reignited discussion around the Real Madrid star’s long-term future.

The latest comments came during the presentation of Lucas Paquetá, who recently returned to Flamengo and remains a close friend of Vinícius dating back to their shared time at the Rio de Janeiro club. When asked directly about the possibility of Vinícius returning one day, Flamengo’s director of football, José Boto, offered a response that quickly drew attention.

“The door is always open,” Boto said, before adding a remark that went even further. He referenced Vinícius’ contract situation at Real Madrid, noting that if the winger were to see out his deal, Flamengo would not need to negotiate a transfer fee. Vinícius is currently under contract in Madrid until June 2027, but no renewal has been finalized.

From Real Madrid’s perspective, the situation is far more straightforward. The club views Vinícius as a cornerstone of the sporting project and considers extending his contract a priority before it enters its final year. Florentino Pérez has no intention of allowing one of the team’s most valuable assets to approach free agency, though talks with the player’s representatives have slowed due to financial disagreements. At present, the issue is not sporting but economic.

Outside interest continues to surround the Brazilian. Clubs in Saudi Arabia have previously explored a potential move and could return with fresh proposals, while several Premier League sides remain attentive to any developments. Flamengo’s approach, however, differs from the rest—leaning less on financial power and more on emotional ties, history, and identity.

Boto acknowledged as much in his closing remarks, emphasizing that any future move would ultimately rest on the player’s wishes. “These types of players can only be pursued when they truly want to return,” he said. “It depends more on Vini than on us.”
