Liverpool have held talks with "infectious" £50m ace over move to Anfield; Man Utd also keen

Liverpool have reportedly held talks over the signing of highly-rated Wolves youngster Mateus Mane, with Manchester United also in the mix.

The Reds have toiled in attack for much of this season, with new signings taking time to settle and Alexander Isak breaking his leg.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has looked a shadow of his former self, and Cody Gakpo has looked one-dimensional and out of form on the left-hand side.

For that reason, bringing in a wide attacker is vital in the summer transfer window, not least if Salah’s Liverpool career comes to an end.

According to a fresh claim from Sports Boom, Liverpool are in talks over the signing of 18-year-old Mane from Wolves, with Reds scouts watching him in action.

United are also keen on acquiring the signature of the England youth international in the near future, with his price tag mentioned as £50m.

Can Wolves star be Liverpool’s next great Mane?

Mane has arguably been about the only positive for Wolves in a season that has seen them look doomed in the Premier League for months now.

The teenager ace has bagged three goal contributions (two goals and one assist) in seven league starts in 2025/26 to date, while Wanderers manager Rob Edwards has heaped praise on him.

“He is 18, but he is almost a little bit of a leader in there as well. It is infectious. He is rubbing off on people, with his energy, his enthusiasm.”

Mane may be at his best in an attacking midfield role, but he can also shine in midfield and as a centre forward, and given his age, Liverpool may feel that his versatility could also allow him to be effective out wide, even hitting the heights of Sadio Mane eventually.

He looks like a fantastic talent with a big future in the game, and he could be an outstanding long-term option at the end of the season, with Wolves’ imminent relegation surely leading to his exit.

Beating United to the signing of any player should always be seen as a big positive for Liverpool, too, and this could be a transfer saga to watch in the coming months.
