Report: Club actually prefer to sell their £15m player to Everton this summer

Everton explored a few deals last month which remain possible this summer.

Harry Wilson was approached by Everton on transfer deadline day after entering the final six months of his contract, but Fulham opted to keep the Welshman. However, a move to Merseyside on a free transfer this summer is certainly possible, should the 28-year-old refuse to sign a new deal.

The saga involving Brooke Norton-Cuffy does not appear to be over either, as Pino Brenzini has now shared an update with Tutto Napoli.

Deal to sign Brooke Norton-Cuffy is there for Everton to do thanks to Genoa preference

The Genoa correspondent has now told Tutto Napoli that Everton are actually in “pole position” to sign the England U21 international this summer ahead of Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan.

That is due to the fact Genoa would prefer not to strengthen a Serie A rival.

Brenzini said: “We’ve heard some talk between Inter, Juventus, and the Premier League, involving a fee of €16m – €17m (£14m – £15m). Everton is in pole position for next season. Genoa prefers to sell players abroad.”

Everton opted against signing Norton-Cuffy this winter after he failed to shine in front of scouts earlier this season, with the Toffees feeling they needed more time to assess the former Arsenal defender.

Should the 22-year-old go on to impress in the second half of this season, you would therefore assume Everton will pounce this summer, especially with Genoa ready to sell for potentially as little as £14m.

Everton really need to be sure about Brooke Norton-Cuffy after Nathan Patterson deal

This deal certainly looks there for Everton to do if they want it, but The Friedkin Group have to be absolutely sure based on what has happened with Nathan Patterson.

The Toffees arguably rushed into a £16m deal for the Scotland international back in January 2022, who was only 20 at the time and had just 27 appearances for Rangers to his name.

Patterson has since struggled to assert himself at Everton, with David Moyes opting to field a central defender in Jake O’Brien ahead of him at right-back this season.

Therefore, if Everton do opt to proceed with a deal for Norton-Cuffy, they have to be utterly convinced or else Moyes risks being left with two right-back options who are not up to standard.
