Leeds United’s transfer deadline may have passed, but clubs in certain European leagues can still trade this week, including over in Turkey.
United’s chances of adding more to the squad ahead of the Premier League survival run-in have passed us by this week. Deadline day came and went without so much as a faint hope of signing anyone.
Facundo Buonanotte was the club’s sole addition, while the club’s only senior outgoing was that of Jack Harrison. One loan in, one loan out.
Besiktas make shock approach to sign Leeds United’s Illan Meslier
One window still open is in Turkey, and Leeds have seen two of the goalkeeper department subject to approaches from Besiktas.
First, it was Lucas Perri, who was subject to an unspecified bid that was rejected by Leeds. Seemingly, it’ll have fallen short of Leeds’ £15.6million fee paid for the Brazilian back in summer, therefore not being a viable offer to accept.
Now, Illan Meslier has emerged on the same club’s radar.
A report from journalist Efecan Oztas claims that Leeds have received an approach for the Frenchman, who is out of contract in the summer and currently free to discuss pre-contract agreements.
However, if a club intends to sign him now, they would have to agree a deal with the club too.

This report claims that Leeds are intending to retain Meslier for the remainder of the campaign. Although, talks are ongoing over an agreement.
What did Daniel Farke have to say about Illan Meslier leaving Leeds United?
Daniel Farke was asked specifically about Meslier’s future at Leeds during his pre-Nottingham Forest press conference.
In particular, it was asked to Farke whether any of his squad would be still free to leave the club before the closure of windows across the globe.
“That’s a problem I have. As soon as you think it’s closed there’s a window open somewhere else,” Farke said, via the YEP. “Aware that a few options are possible, I think it’s unlikely. No one has told me he wants to leave. Fully convinced we will work with this group.
“Can’t rule out anything but up until today, no one apart from Jack Harrison has told me he wants to leave.”
Turkey’s and Greece’s transfer deadline is on Friday 6th February, while Switzerland remains open until February 16th. Outside of Europe, the United States’ MLS remains open until March 26th.
