West Ham United boss Nuno Espírito Santo has today suggested that deadline-day signing [Axel Disasi](https://www.claretandhugh.info/disasi-deal-goes-into-extra-time-probably-west-ham-news/) “has to get in the team”.
The comment came during Nuno’s pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley — a briefing I listened to closely and have since re-read in transcript form.
And honestly? It’s still not entirely clear whether the Hammers boss was saying it would be helpful if Disasi breaks into the starting XI… or whether he’s effectively insisting that be selected.
“He’s been working hard, and he’s in a good place physically. You can see he’s been working hard at Chelsea,” said Nuno — news to many, given Disasi’s lack of game time.
“He has to get himself in the team, and get to know his teammates, but I think he can help us. He’s a strong defender, he’s good on the ball, and he’s a good option for us.”
Kilman Still Favourite?
-----------------------
Who knows what that really translates to when the teamsheets are handed in before the game against Burnley.
Judging by how quickly Nuno has thrown his January signings into action, he may not be bluffing. But my money is still on Max Kilman getting the nod to replace the suspended Jean-Clair Todibo this weekend.
Either way, the manager’s wording was telling.
For a player who only just walked through the door, Disasi already sounds like someone Nuno expects to rely on — and fast.
