Manchester United’s weekend opponents Tottenham Hotspur face an injury crisis.
The 2025 Europa League Final result last season changed the future for both Manchester United and Tottenham, setting up very different challenges.
United’s sole focus is on domestic football this season and the team are now up to fourth position, an improvement on last year’s 15th place.
Tottenham’s reward for winning was qualification to the Champions League, and while they have impressively reached the knockout phase, it has had an impact on their Premier League performances.
Spurs languish down in 14th place in the Premier League this season, and one of the big reasons is an injury crisis, with their squad taking the strain of trying to compete on multiple fronts.

Team news for Manchester United vs Tottenham

Speaking at his press conference, Michael Carrick said that Mount is the closest of the trio to returning, but won’t be fit in time to face Tottenham.

Tottenham have an even longer injury list with nine players definitely ruled out of the fixture.
James Maddison
Kevin Danso
Richarlison
Lucas Bergvall
Mohamed Kudus
Pedro Porro
Dejan Kulusevski
Rodrigo Bentancur
Ben Davies
Tottenham’s list of absentees features a number of big name players, and Dejan Kulusevski could be a major miss after the way he played in Tottenham’s last win at Old Trafford.
Richarlison was one of Tottenham’s scorers in the 2-2 draw between the sides earlier this season.
Spurs have also sold Brennan Johnson, who scored in that game and forced the winner in the Europa League Final.

There is good news for the visitors however, with three players set to shake off knocks to be available for the match-up.
Cristian Romero
Micky van de Ven
Djed Spence
Romero featured in Tottenham’s last match against City but was taken off at half-time due to illness. He is expected to be available.
Van de Ven missed Spurs’ last two games and he was a thorn for United last season, creating an impressive goal at Old Trafford with a run upfield, and clearing an effort off the line in the Europa League Final.

Tottenham still a threat
Tottenham’s league position and injury list must not lull Manchester United into any sense of complacency this weekend.
They still have enough quality in their side to pose a threat, fighting back from 2-0 down to claim a draw against City a week ago.
Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke up front will be supported by Xavi Simons in attack, and United will not be able to switch off.
After five games against Spurs without a win, United will be determined to get one this weekend, but Michael Carrick’s side will have to earn it.
