Newcastle United boss Anthony Gordon is expected to miss Saturday's clash with Brentford tomorrow night.
Gordon went off with a hamstring problem in the Carabao Cup exit against Manchester City in the semi-finals in midweek. As reported by Chronicle Live yesterday, Gordon was a major doubt for Saturday, but the injury is not serious. Bruno Guimaraes is facing final fitness tests on an ankle injury picked up against PSV Eindhoven after missing the last three games.
Gordon's absence means that Harvey Barnes is favourite to start against the London side on the left wing.
Howe, speaking at his pre-match Press conference ahead of the Brentford game, said on Gordon: "No major update. Probably, every chance he will miss this game at the weekend.
"We hope it's not a serious injury and he will be pretty back soon."
When reflecting on Bruno's chances of facing Brentford, Howe said: "He is getting closer. He had a training session on Wednesday when we were travelling.
"He felt pretty good so I will see him today so fingers crossed he can play."
Howe will also run a late test on Lewis Miley who did not appear away to Liverpool and Man City after experiencing discomfort in the warm-up at Anfield. Howe said: "We find out today. I am awaiting on an update on him.
"Not a serious injury and I hope he will back pretty soon."
