Jhon Duran completes loan move

The past week before the January window closed saw Leeds United linked with many players, but ultimately after the deadline, most of the reports turned out to be just rumours. The Whites made just one signing in the window – Facundo Buonanotte.

In the January transfer window, it was reported that the representatives of Jhon Duran reached out to Premier League clubs over a move. The Al Nassr striker was keen on a return to England after leaving a few seasons ago. However, there was no concrete offer and the Colombian ended up joining Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia till the end of the season.

News emerged about a possible switch to England when Leeds were hell bent on signing Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves.

Leeds United could have had an alternative to Strand Larsen

Ending the January transfer window without a signing at center forward was a frustrating end to a promising window. Leeds added Facundo Buonanotte, who came in when Jack Harrison left on loan. Now the club have a quality option in attack they can use and rely on who plays at a much better level than Harrison. The whole situation with Jorgen Strand Larsen ended up being a big waste of time – trying to sign him ended up failing. But not trying to get an alternative is an even worse decision.

This is similar to what happened at the end of the summer window, when Leeds spent the early weeks rebuilding different areas of the squad. But ultimately they did not add to the attack, and were left scrambling for alternatives close to the transfer deadline. Leeds could have gotten Jhon Duran, who proved he was a very capable Premier League level striker during his time at Aston Villa.

For now, the 49ers have decided to gamble on Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin staying healthy between now and the end of the season.
