Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Scholes has waxed lyrical about just how good of a footballer Everton once held in their squad.
“I’m thinking there you’re [Paul Merson] saying how he [Dennis Bergkamp] was above Gazza… Gazza was unbelievable!” said Scholes.
“I thought Gazza was unbelievable, but I played together with Gazza when we were at Middlesbrough,” replied Merson.
In recent months, Gascoigne has shared his doubts over Moyes on his return to Merseyside last year.
Clearly, Everton fans never got to see the best side of Gazza, but they were treated to the colourful personality he possessed behind the scenes at Finch Farm.
Everton allowed Paul Gascoigne to leave for free after underwhelming
The Englishman departed Everton in 2002 for Burnley on a free transfer.
Gazza played 37 times for Everton during his stint on Merseyside, where he was only able to provide a return of one goal and four assists.
Perhaps his biggest contribution to Everton came last year when Gazza spoke to Jack Grealish’s father about a possible transfer.
The England legend was keen to share his thoughts on Grealish needing to leave Manchester City to play more regular minutes.
He may never have been at his best for Everton, but the Blues has a true legend of the game in their squad when Gascoigne was at Finch Farm.
