Leeds United confirm new transfer decision as “outstanding” 19-y/o blows away UK club

Leeds United loaned out talented goalkeeper Rory Mahady to Scunthorpe United earlier this season, and the National League side have pushed to keep him for the rest of the campaign.

The Whites have an onus on finding the best loan opportunities for our most talented youngsters in the academy.

Harry Gray’s start to life at Rotherham United is proof of what senior opportunities can do. Further down the English ladder, Rory Mahady is making significant strides at Scunthorpe United.

Scunthorpe United confirm another Rory Mahady loan extension from Leeds United

Mahady initially joined Scunthorpe in the National League on a short-term basis. But, the Scottish youth international’s first glimpse of senior football couldn’t have gone much better.

In making 12 appearances for the Iron, Mahady has helped his side to eight wins that have them comfortably in the playoff spots and thus in the promotion mix.

As a result, his loan club have now confirmed the decision to extend his stay at the Attis Arena until the end of this season:

The Iron’s statement gives a glowing review of the 19-year-old’s performances thus far:

“Over the course of his spell with the Iron so far, Mahady has more than impressed between the sticks, making 14 appearances across all competitions and keeping three clean sheets in that time, an impressive return accompanied by several outstanding performances, leaving United with little choice but to try and secure his services until the end of the season.”

Leeds United looking to capitalise on several loan opportunities away from Thorp Arch

Mahady and Gray are perhaps two of the most impressive players that we’ve loaned out this season. Gray is of course tipped for greatness at Leeds if he keeps going, but Mahady’s progression is great to see too.

At 19, he’s got so much time on his side to become the player Leeds hope he can. We really ought to not make a hasty decision on him either, given we cashed in on Elia Caprile before he made a senior debut, and we’ve now seen him surpass all of our current options.

His form at the top end of the National League this season ought to have a few EFL clubs intrigued at his availability in the summer. A loan higher up could see him develop further in 26/27.
