In recent days, Beşiktaş have been linked with Leeds United Illan Meslier after entering into talks for him.
Beşiktaş’ want to sign a new goalkeeper, and likely two, after their issues with the position this season.
Mert Günok, who lost his place in the team, departed the Black Eagles in January, whilst Ersin Destanoğlu hasn’t convinced since replacing him.
Subsequently, they’ve turned their attention to the Leeds United player and are looking to take advantage of his situation.
Daniel Farke has used Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow ahead of the Frenchman since their return to the Premier League. Darlow has been installed as the No.1 in recent games.
This week Sport Witness covered reports Beşiktaş’ had approached Meslier’s agent after giving up on Chelsea’s Filip Jörgensen. The Super Lig club were trying to get information about what it would take to sign the Leeds United stopper.
Leeds United talks intensified
Sporx report on the latest developments and they say transfer negotiations have intensified ahead of today’s Turkish deadline.
The two clubs are talks over the Frenchman and Beşiktaş are hoping to finalise a deal in the coming hours. They have until midnight local time to get the transfer over the line.
He has less than six months left on his contract, and this could give Beşiktaş hope signing the 25-year-old before the deadline. It’s likely they’re attempting to get him for free.
Santos goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão is another option for the Istanbul giants, but they are likely to be priced out of a move for him.
Meslier joined Leeds United initially on loan from Lorient and he’s been the regular goalkeeper since the 2019/20 season. Since arriving in the UK, he’s made nearly 200 appearances for the Premier League club.
However, with the arrival of Perri from Lyon in the summer he lost his place in Farke’s stating line-up, and has yet to play this season.
