Sunderland completed the signing of Nilson Angulo from Anderlecht on winter deadline day.
The Belgian media reported Anderlecht collected €17.3m plus bonuses from his move to the Stadium of Light.
He starred for the Jupiler Pro Leauge side, scoring seven goals and contributing eight assists from 30 matches this season. The Ecuador international’s decision to join Régis Le Bris permanently hasn’t pleased his compatriot, Felipe Caicedo.
The former Manchester City man believes the 22-year-old could have secured a move to a bigger Premier League side had to he stayed at Anderlecht until the summer.
Ecuador’s media have a different take on Angulo’s arrival at Sunderland. Friday’s edition of Diario Extra covers the excitement and pride in Ecuador over this latest move to the Premier League.
The Black Cats are yet to assign him a shirt number. However, there is a photo of the player holding a Sunderland shirt, ‘Angulo 10’, circulating on social media platforms.
This is enough to get the Ecuadorian media excited and for the right reasons. The newspaper says the thought of an Ecuadorian player wearing a No.10 shirt for a ‘team in the world’s most competitive league seemed impossible decades ago.’

Diario Extra further adds this is also a ‘sign of confidence’ from Le Bris, the Black Cats and their supporters.
Another Ecuadorian newspaper, Diario Expreso, also tell their local readers that Sunderland have total faith in their new signing’s talent. This is visible from their decision to hand him the No.10 shirt.
Sunderland travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal on Saturday. Le Bris has confirmed the South American is in contention to make his debut for the Black Cats tomorrow.
