Nottingham Forest’s Cuiabano has arrived in Brazil to complete his move, closing the transfer chapter and opening an immediate football discussion.
The left-back landed in Rio de Janeiro early on Thursday to sign his loan deal with Vasco da Gama. The agreement runs until the end of the year and includes an option to buy. Vasco have already communicated the deal officially and confirmed the registration process.
Fit and ready to play
On arrival, Cuiabano sounded confident and said he feels ready to feature straight away. The timing stands out, with Vasco set to face Botafogo, his former club, in the Carioca this weekend.
“I’m very happy to be here at Vasco and yes, I’m fit to play,” he said. “I played two matches with Forest’s Under-21s and had been training. Now I need to speak to coach Fernando Diniz and see what he thinks, because the final decision is his.”
That fitness work followed a clear plan at Nottingham Forest. The club managed a specific rehabilitation programme, using Under-21 matches to rebuild rhythm before deciding his next move.
Ambitions and next steps for Nottingham Forest man
Cuiabano also spoke about his longer-term goals. He stressed his focus on daily work and development, with the Brazilian national team as a future aim. At the same time, he downplayed talk of other offers.
“For me, nothing official came in from anywhere else. What arrived was Vasco,” he said. “But every player dreams of reaching the national team. I’ll work day by day and see if I can get there.”
Cuiabano joins Vasco without ever making an official senior appearance for Nottingham Forest. After Forest bought him, he spent last season on loan back at Botafogo.
He will wear the number 66 shirt and, by his own assessment, could have his debut this weekend against a club he knows well: Botafogo.
With paperwork done and fitness addressed, the focus now shifts fully to football. Forest’s role is complete, and attention turns to how fast Cuiabano enters the club’s plans.
