Official UEFA Champions League Goal of the League Phase announced

We have now seen the official UEFA Champions League goal of the league phase revealed.

An announcement made by UEFA on Friday.

A number of options had been put up for a public vote by fans.

The eventual winner turns out to be a goal that tens of thousands of Newcastle United fans saw in the flesh.

However, it was a strike that ended up in United’s net.

Marcus Rashford voted as the fans’ 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Goal of the League Phase.

His match winning goal for Barcelona at St James’ Park.

The official UEFA site describing that goal: ‘Rashford had already given Barcelona a 1-0 lead at St James’ Park with a deft header, but it was his second goal which stole the headlines. The England forward picked up the ball 25 metres out before sprinting into space and unleashing a venomous long-distance shot.’

That Rashford goal coming in the first round of matches as United lost 2-1 to Barcelona.

Whilst the runner up in the vote for 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Goal of the League Phase, came in the eighth and final round of matches.

Goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin finished second in the vote thanks to his memorable header for Benfica against Real Madrid, late in the match.

The full top three announced as follows:

Fans’ 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Goal of the League Phase

1. Marcus Rashford, Newcastle 1-2 BARCELONA (Matchday 1)

2. Anatoliy Trubin, BENFICA 4-2 Real Madrid (Matchday 8)

3. Chiquinho, OLYMPIACOS 3-4 Real Madrid (Matchday 5)

Newcastle United contenders?

When it comes to the 17 Champions League goals that Newcastle United have scored this season, my top three contenders would probably be…

Dan Burn and his remarkable long range curling header against Athletic Club Bilbao.

Followed by the quality Harvey Barnes finish from Nick Pope’s class assist. Then probably the Joe Willock goal against PSG.
