Winger now claims Manchester United wanted to sign him before he joined Everton for £28m

Manchester United have considered signing many different players in recent years, but not every target gets a desired transfer to Old Trafford.

Since taking control of football operations at Manchester United, Ineos have begun working on rebuilding the squad with Jason Wilcox positioned as football director.

A lot of work has been done to add more talent to United’s academy, including prospects like Chido Obi and Sekou Kone, with the latter recently sent on loan to Ineos-owned Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland.

United didn’t sign a single player in the January transfer window as they spent the month extending their loanee list, as well as changing head coach with Michael Carrick succeeding Ruben Amorim in the hot seat at Old Trafford.

All eyes will be on United in the summer to see who will be the head coach and what players they bring in to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

There will be no shortage of transfer targets.

Yannick Bolasie lifts lid on Man Utd interest

Yannick Bolasie established a name for himself in the Premier League at Crystal Palace before earning a transfer to Everton in 2026.

The French winger enjoyed his peak years at Selhurst Park and was renowned for his explosive pace and dribbling.

It was at Crystal Palace where Bolasie struck a strong wing duo with former United forward Wilfried Zaha.

In an interview with Colinterview on YouTube, Bolasie lifts the lid on United showing an interest in his signature before he signed for Everton in a deal worth £28 million.

“I also knew – before I went to Everton, I knew Manchester United wanted me too,” Bolasie said.

“But the way I was thinking at the time, I said OK. Normally, players who play well at Everton go to Manchester United, so I said OK, that’s the path.

“At Liverpool, for example, you see players who go to Barcelona or go to Real Madrid. But with Everton, I knew players who played well at Everton, then moved to Manchester United.”

Bolasie was then asked if United was his dream transfer.

The 36-year-old, who currently plays for Chapecoense in Brazil, admitted: “It was something – something that was in my head.

“I already knew, I kept it in mind. But I had some setbacks, and then things changed a bit. But that’s life – it’s not something I regret.”

Yannick Bolaise record against Man Utd

Bolasie didn’t enjoy his games against United when he played in England because five of them ended in defeat.

The best results, as far as Bolasie would be considered, were two draws. One from his Palace and another during his Everton days.

However, Bolasie was part of the Palace side that lost the FA Cup final to United in 2016.

Louis van Gaal was sacked by United in the hours that followed, despite delivering cup success.
