Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham rejected deadline day offer to sign forward Everton wanted

Everton made the decision not to sign a new striker during the winter transfer window.

Goals have certainly picked up for Everton over recent weeks, with Thierno Barry and Beto both finding their shooting boots.

David Moyes will have been left pulling his hair out at certain points of the season having witnessed some of the showings in front of goal.

Everton News columnist Alan Myers wanted Everton to sign a striker in the window, much like many fans did.

That did not come to fruition, as Everton only signed winger Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea.

Deadline day is now done… what’s your thoughts, Toffees? 😬

It is believed that Everton held an interest in signing Jhon Duran as the Colombian striker pushed for a move.

The striker is someone who has been on the move a lot over recent months, having only left the Premier League last year.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Spurs were actually offered the opportunity to sign Duran.

“And then offered to Tottenham. Jhon Duran had the possibility to go to Tottenham on deadline day. Offered to Tottenham on loan but Tottenham decided against this move,” said Romano.

“Tottenham decided not to go for Jhon Duran to stay with the current squad.”

Duran has since signed for Zenit Saint Petersburg in what is truly one of the more bizarre transfers of the year.

The 22-year-old has now played football in Colombia, the United States, England, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Russia.

Everton backing Beto and Thierno Barry to score more goals

Recent weeks have seen a positive turn in output from Thierno Barry and Beto, with the pair chipping in with some goals.

Everton rejected the opportunity to sell Beto on deadline day just hours after his late equaliser against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Consistency is going to be key for the pair as they need to prove that the recent run of form is not just a purple patch.

Barry did not particularly play well at the weekend against Brighton, but he will have a big opportunity to get back on the scoresheet against Fulham.

Moyes has put a lot of faith in them ahead of these remaining months.
