Manager admits new contract is now being prepared for his key player as Everton lurk

Everton have several clubs on notice after making approaches in the winter transfer window.

Fulham are trying to convince Harry Wilson to sign a new deal after a late move from Everton – who could still sign the Welshman on a free transfer this summer if the Cottagers fail to persuade him.

Sheffield United also seem to be wary of Everton after the Toffees showed interest in Femi Seriki last month in the hunt for a new right-back.

Chris Wilder has now revealed that the Blades are set to start work on a new contract for the 23-year-old after he entered the final 18 months of his deal, in a bid to fend off interest.

Deadline day is now done… what’s your thoughts, Toffees? 😬

Everton given a warning shot as Chris Wilder responds to Femi Seriki question

The Star gave Everton encouragement last month when describing the situation involving Seriki at Bramall Lane as a “complicated” one.

Should Sheffield United fail to agree a new deal with the right-back by the summer, he will only have 12 months remaining on his contract, meaning the Blades must either consider a sale or run the risk of losing him on a free transfer in 2027.

Wilder seems keen to avoid such a situation. When asked for an update on Seriki after the interest from Everton, The Star quoted the 58-year-old as saying: “We had to prepare for that week, with Ipswich, Millwall and then the Tuesday night against Oxford, with focus on the transfer window as well.

“But now moving on, of course. Moving on to the other aspects of securing players and tying players down for longer is key. Key to protect the asset (now) that the player has improved, but we have as well.”

Seriki has scored one goal and provided four assists in 24 Championship appearances so far this season.

Everton have plenty of backup options if Sheffield United manage to tie Femi Seriki down

The Sheffield United No.38 seems to be a top talent, but it would hardly be the end of the world if Everton missed out given how many options The Friedkin Group are aware of.

Everton have scouted Brooke Norton-Cuffy on several occasions, and reports in Italy say a deal is there for the Toffees to do this summer in the region of £14m.

Furthermore, there is another option in the Championship as Everton monitor Ryan Alebiosu of Blackburn, so Everton have not put all of their eggs into one basket when it comes to Seriki, at least.
