Newcastle United transfers: Sandro Tonali’s agent has once again discussed the possibility of leaving Newcastle after the deadline day links to Arsenal.
Sandro Tonali’s agent has added more fuel to the transfer speculation surrounding the player’s future at Newcastle United.
Tonali was linked with a move to Arsenal on deadline day after one of his representatives reportedly made contact with the Premier League leaders.
Ultimately, the move never materialised and was realistically never going to so late in the window. But that only makes the claims the Italian was offered to Arsenal all the more concerning from a Newcastle perspective.
While Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, shut down the Arsenal links as ‘nonsense’ and insisted no contact was made, he also didn’t rule out a potential future transfer.
Sandro Tonali’s agent expects transfer talks - summer exit possible
And in a fresh interview with Tuttosport, Riso admitted a decision will be made on Tonali’s future in the summer with fresh transfer talks expected.
Riso said: “Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League.
"These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.
“There’s no preference at the moment. It’s still early. What we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow.
“Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, and there’s no point in moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club. We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer.”
Tonali himself has also cast doubt over his future at the club when speaking to the media.
When asked about staying at Newcastle, the Italian said: “This is a tough question because in football, you need to think year on year.
“I don’t want to say ‘I want to stay here 10 years’ and in two years, three years, four years, five years I will go. I want to think, just for me, year on year.”
Eddie Howe responds to Sandro Tonali exit speculation
When asked about the deadline day story about Tonali, Howe said: “No, certainly there was no intention from our side to lose Sandro at all.
“I think he's such an integral player to what we're doing. I think he's very happy here. He loves playing for Newcastle and loves representing the city.
“Sandro's absolutely fine. I had discussions with Sandro yesterday. He's absolutely focused on the here, the now, playing for us.
“His only focus, talking to him yesterday, was Manchester City and trying to win that game. So, there's absolutely no issue with Sandro himself, and he's very happy and he's committed.
“So, I find it difficult to talk about things that I don't know too much about.
“I can only talk about Sandro as the person and the player and his sort of mindset here and now, having discussed things with him yesterday. He's absolutely fine.”
