Eddie Howe's win percentage compared to other Newcastle United managers amid future comments

Eddie Howe's future at Newcastle United has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks.

The Magpies suffered a challenging night at Anfield last weekend as two goals from former transfer target Hugo Ekitike helped Liverpool inflict a 4-1 defeat on Howe’s men and that has left Newcastle sitting in the bottom half of the table ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

There was further disappointment in midweek when the Magpies defence of the Carabao Cup came to an end with a semi-final defeat at the hands of Manchester City. Most of the damage was done in the first leg as Pep Guardiola’s side claimed a 2-0 win at St James Park and they finished the job on their home patch and set up a Wembley date with Arsenal thanks to a 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

That leaves Newcastle to focus on their push for Europe and hopes of domestic silverware now rest of progressing throughout a tough-looking FA Cup fourth round tie at Aston Villa next weekend. Of course, there is a Champions League play-off round tie with Qarabag to look forward to over the coming weeks - but it would be safe to suggest Howe’s side are not one of the favourites to lift the greatest prize in European football.

After a difficult few months, there has been some talk Howe’s time in charge at St James Park could come to an end as the Magpies could turn their focus elsewhere. However, there have been suggestions the United boss retains the full support of his employers and will be entrusted with carrying the club into the summer and beyond. But how does Howe’s win percentage compare to his predecessors at St James Park?

The Magpies boss was asked about if he could consider his future at his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle’s home game with Brentford. He replied: “That’s a surprise to me. I give my best to the football club every single day, to all the players and the staff. I try to be the best version of myself to inspire the team to win games. That’s my only thought. I don’t tend to look too far ahead but I try to prepare and plan for the club to move forward in every sense. My individual future isn’t really relevant.”
