Newcastle United splashed out £250million last summer while recouping £130million for Alexander Isak.
Eddie Howe has called for patience towards the players Newcastle United signed last summer.
Toon chiefs forked out a staggering £250million on the likes of Nick Woltemade, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw. Most of that outlay was bankrolled by Alexander Isak’s sale but, as it stands only Thiaw has proven a hit.
Woltemade started well but has not scored for 12 games across all competitions. As for Elanga and Ramsey, the Premier League proven duo, they have struggled to make an impact.
Eddie Howe calls for Newcastle United patience
When asked to reflect on the £250million spend, Howe said: “It's a fair question. I will say with transfer windows, I think it's a better reflection in time because even short-term players can do well. But it's time that will be the judge. I don't know the exact time on that, to be honest, of when that becomes a fully justifiable analysis. But for me, it's too early to make strong conclusions from that transfer window.
“At this moment, I'd probably say ‘Let's see where we are at the end of the season’. And then even still, probably six months into next season, I think you'll have a clearer idea. You can look back at Lewis Hall's transfer and go, ‘Well, that didn't work initially’.
“But for me, that was always a long-term signing… and various other players we've signed throughout the years. Anthony Gordon took time to become the player that he is now. Patience is needed, although it's a rare commodity these days with transfers. And I understand with the outlay, people will go, ‘You shouldn't need patience and understanding’. But I'd say with most transfers these days, there has to be an element of that.”

Eddie Howe on Newcastle United future
Howe also dismissed suggestions that he plans to step down as Newcastle manager at the end of the season. He added: “That's a surprise to me. As I said to the question earlier, I give my best every day. To the football club, to all the players, to the staff. I'll try and be the best version of myself to inspire the team to win games.
“That's the only thing in my thought. I don't tend to look too far ahead and I have done. I'll try and prepare and plan for the club to move forward in every sense. My individual future is not really relevant.”
