Aston Villa youngster Rory Wilson has joined Sturm Graz on loan for the rest of the season.

The Austrian Bundesliga champions were among several clubs interested in taking Wilson on loan from Villa this winter.

Wilson has already shown his goal-scoring ability at youth level, netting seven times in 12 games this season and previously scoring 22 goals in 34 matches over the past two campaigns with Villa.

He signed a new contract with the club last summer, and a loan move was always expected around the turn of the year.

“I’ve heard a lot about Sturm through Max Johnston, a big club in Austria with great fans, where young players get a chance,” Wilson said.

“It was clear to me right away that I absolutely wanted to seize this opportunity. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the team and working hard together to win as many games as possible.”

Sporting Director Michael Parensen said: "Rory Wilson is a highly talented young striker we've been following for some time.

“His strengths lie primarily in his play between the lines, his positioning in the penalty area, and his finishing, thus adding another dimension to our attack.

“We're looking forward to an exciting young player who will prove what he's capable of in the coming months."
