It is a huge six-pointer down near the bottom of the league at Elland Road as 16th-placed Leeds host 17th-placed Nottingham Forest. Both sides are level on points and level on goal difference, six points above the relegation zone. When these sides met in the reverse fixture at the City Ground back in November, Nottingham Forest ran out 3-1 winners despite falling a goal behind. That victory was Sean Dyche’s first league win in charge of Forest.
Leeds are looking to bounce back after a heavy 4-0 defeat at home last time out against league leaders Arsenal. They made just the one addition in the January transfer window, bringing in Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton. Daniel Farke was asked about his views on their window.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke looks on
Leeds could take a big step towards safety with a win at home tonight
“I will not speak too much about the thoughts I have shared with the board or what I would have liked to have been added to the squad,” Farke said. “That is because it would make no sense in order to lead my group and give them confidence, if I were to cry right now for another winger or whatever or another striker or another centre-back. My general understanding of my role is I have signed a contract here in order to serve, but for me, it is important that we are all together. It is not like the manager is against the board. If you want to be successful at a club, the key people need to stick together and be on the same page and discuss options. My role is to identify profiles and targets, sometimes even players, that could make us better, but it is also important that the financial department, who leads the club in the mid to long-term in terms of sustainability, have their say. You agree together on what you will do or will not do.”
Anton Stach is set to miss out for the home side but Jaka Bijol could return.
Nottingham Forest took a point from their last game, drawing 1-1 at home against Crystal Palace despite spending the entirety of the second half down to 10 men after Neco Williams’ red card. They are now unbeaten in their last four league games.
“The players do not need me to keep reminding them about the games, I have spoken endlessly about them,” Dyche said. “My mentality, and what I am to instil in the players, is every game is a big game and every game we should go into it believing we can win. Every game we can be competitive in and if we play well we can win that game. It is not just about the next few games, it is about all of them, and we have shown really good signs of that at home.”
Sean Dyche has his arms in the air during a game
Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches
Dyche added Stefan Ortega and Luca Netz before the deadline and both could be involved tonight. Matz Sels (groin) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (shoulder) are doubts for the game whilst Williams is suspended following his red card last time out.
