The on-loan Brighton and Hove Albion man was a surprise absence from the Leeds United squad to face Nottingham Forest.
Leeds United January signing Facundo Buonanotte is missing from the matchday squad for tonight's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.
Two relegation battlers go head-to-head under the lights at Elland Road with the chance to go nine points clear of the drop zone with a win. Leeds have been boosted this week by the return from injury of summer signings Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha, both of whom make the bench. Daniel James has also been named in the squad for the first time since November 29.
But there is no place in Daniel Farke's matchday squad for Buonanotte, who came in on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in January. The Argentine was a summer transfer target and came within a day of making a season-long loan switch to Elland Road before Chelsea's interest turned his head and saw him head to Stamford Bridge. An attacking midfielder, Buonanotte made his debut as a stoppage-time substitute against Everton and came off the bench late on in the 4-0 defeat by Arsenal. But the YEP understands that his absence from the squad for the Forest game is simply a selection decision by Farke and not related to any injury.
Farke has gone with a midfield three of Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Brenden Aaronson, with Sean Longstaff and Ao Tanaka on the bench. His attacking options in the substitutes are James, Joel Piroe, Nmecha and Willy Gnonto. Farke has spoken a number of times to caution expectation around Buonanotte, due to the short amount of time he has had in training to get to grips with Leeds' processes.
