Liverpool could be concerned by interest from Man United in top target Yan Diomande
Liverpool risk being snubbed of the chance to sign transfer target Yan Diomande as a new update reports Manchester United could prioritise him as a replacement for Marcus Rashford.
The Reds have been linked with the exciting winger as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz, who departed the club last year for Bayern Munich.
However, he naturally has more than just Liverpool admiring him, and Man United could be looking to get in the way of what seems like a great match on paper at Anfield.
Man United target Yan Diomande but he ‘wants to play for Liverpool’
According to TEAMtalk’s Dean Jones, United are looking for Rashford replacements and Diomande has appeared on the shortlist. In fact, there is now a ‘growing feeling’ that the 19-year-old will be the ‘first option’ the Red Devils explore this summer.
Man United are ‘very much in the picture’ for Diomande and ‘could lead the race’ for his signature at the end of the season.
This suggests a sensational hijack could be on the cards, if United can strike a deal for the RB Leipzig superstar. Diomande has eight goals and six assists in all competitions so far this season.
He has been valued at €100 million (£87m) and many outlets expect a tussle for his signature this summer to unfold.
Despite all the interest in him, Diomande has admitted his desire to to join Liverpool and he is a supporter of the Reds.
Speaking during a live stream on Instagram (via TEAMtalk), the winger said: “I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My father’s dream is to see me play for Liverpool.”
Marcus Rashford not expected back at Man United
In the same TEAMtalk report, Graeme Bailey delivered an update on Rashford’s situation with Barcelona and has reported that ‘nobody’ had been in contact from United regarding a return to Old Trafford.
“The message from the player’s camp is equally clear: Rashford has no intention of returning to Manchester and remains fully committed to Barcelona.
“Rashford and his representatives are aligned with Barca’s vision for him, and the Catalan giants have assured the England international that he will continue at the Camp Nou beyond this season.”
United will be eager to get a replacement through the door but whether they can convince a player with his heart set on another club to join the ranks remains to be seen.
