Leicester Women, Alisha Lehmann Debut and What Comes Next

Alisha Lehmann made her Leicester debut in the game vs. West Ham last week. The WSL will continue this week as Leicester take on Man Utd tomorrow at home. The game vs. West Ham was crucial and a draw would have been fantastic, but as we all know it all ended in defeat.

Lehmann (27) came on as a second half sub and pushed for a goal, Leicester being 0-2 down at the time. She put pressure on West Ham defender Eva Nystrom, who put the ball in her own net. We will hopefully see Leicester’s most popular player, counting all categories, from start at home to Man Utd.

A number of changes been made in January, having seen Janice Cayman (PSV Eindhoven), Katie Keen (Sheffield United), Nelly Las (Ipswich), Simone Sherwood (Sheffield United) and Hlin Eriksdottir (Fiorentina) all have left club, either on loan or permanent. Cayman has gone permanent, the four others are out on loan.

The game vs. West Ham shows how difficult this season has been and hopefully the new faces will contribute and be able to help to push for points. The three next are very difficult, coming up against Man Utd and Man City. Let’s hope tomorrow will see a competitive Leicester team out there, with Alesha Lehmann contributing from start.

The situation regarding the women are as confusing as the mens team, with a lot of rotation and a squad full of new faces, changing a lot during each transfer window. On the manager front we have also seen a lot of changes as well, turning to new faces almost every season. Current manager is Rick Passmoor, joining the club just weeks before the start of the season, taking over from Amandine Miquel.

In earlier seasons this women team has been under pressure, but still managed to survive in the top flight. We do believe the focus might have been taken away from the game itself with the incident of Willie Kirk. He was cought having a relationship with one of his players at Leicester, and had to leave his job.

He had trouble getting a new job instantly but has since leaving Leicester in March 2024, had jobs in Swedish women football at Linkoping and is now the head coach of Stockholm club Djurgarden.

Former Leicester favourite Emile Heskey is the head of devlopment of women soccer at the football club. A role he has been in since 2021. He returned to the club a year prior, being and ambassodor and mentor.

We will as always follow up on the upcoming games and continue our support.
