Earlier this week, AreaNapoli covered West Ham’s interest in Napoli’s Antonio Vergara.
This came right after the attacker scored two goals in a week. He found the net against Chelsea and also scored against Fiorentina in Serie A. This helped Antonio Conte’s side pick up a key win, as Vergara also assisted against La Viola.
The 23-year-old is now increasingly becoming a key player for Napoli. Interest from West Ham has added to that and prompted a possible contract renewal.
Calciomercato reiterate the Hammers’ made an approach in January.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side reportedly put forward €20m for the attacker. This was rejected, as Napoli now look to tie him down to a contract.
Initial discussions with his agent Mario Giufreddi have already taken place. Vergara currently earns €400k a season, which is too low for his importance in the side. That is why his wage will be upgraded, with the player keen on the renewal.
The report also speaks of a possible call-up to the Italian national side. Manager Rino Gattuso has been keeping an eye on the attacker’s progress. If things keep going well, Vergara can play for the Azzurri next month.
The Italian made only three starts towards the end of January, and his goals also came towards the end of the month.
West Ham offering €20m prior to Vergara playing in the top-flight would have been a huge gamble. That is why talk about the London club’s offer feels like an attempt to establish the player’s value in the market, and perhaps do groundwork ahead of renewal talks.
