“Leeds fans…” – Morgan Gibbs-White’s Elland Road comments come back to haunt him

Leeds United

Friday night saw Leeds United get back on track after a blip against Arsenal last weekend. The Whites returned to Elland Road after suffering a huge defeat to Mikel Arteta’s men.

Standing in their way on Friday night was Nottingham Forest, who are also in the scrap for survival. So going into the game, both sides knew the consequences of a bad result. Much like every game at Elland Road this season, the Whites came flying out of the blocks.

They took the lead inside 26 minutes, with a long ball finding Jayden Bogle in the Forest box and the fullback coolly slotted home. Noah Okafor doubled the home side’s advantage four minutes later. Daniel Farke’s side went into half time with a precious 2-0 lead. Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the icing on the cake minutes into the second half, putting Leeds United in a commanding position. Forest tried to mount a comeback after pulling one back after 86 minutes but it was too little too late.

Morgan Gibbs-White will regret Leeds United comments pre-game

Nottingham Forest were embarrassed on Friday night, and were outplayed for a majority of the game. Before the match, Sean Dyche’s side has strung together some impressive results, and were unbeaten in four games. Just before kick-off on Friday, Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White took a jab at the fans at Elland Road, saying his team would get a victory:

“Leeds fans are great, but our fans are incredible and it is going to create a great atmosphere under the lights here tonight.” he said to Sky Sports.

“It is a great night for football, you have to love it. We’re going to embrace this game, we are going to enjoy it. These are the sorts of games you play football for.

“To be involved in these games is why you play. We know it won’t be easy here at Elland Road but we are coming in here to put in a good performance and get the three points.”

The midfielder was subbed off after just 67 minutes with his side unable to deal with the onslaught in the second half of the game.

Huge boost for Daniel Farke

One big winner from this week will definitely be Daniel Farke; after the Arsenal game, he came under a lot of criticism for how the team played. And most importantly, he had to pick the pieces up and prepare them for a crucial clash at the bottom of the table. This week saw the 49ers miss out on major targets to reinforce the squad, but tonight will be a huge boost for Farke, who will have faith that his team can still pull off results like this.
