Sunderland youngster Dan Cameron is enjoying an impressive loan spell with non-league neighbours Hebburn Town.
Sunderland youngster Dan Cameron has been backed to shine at a higher level as he continues to impress during a loan spell with Northern Premier League club Hebburn Town.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper has been a regular feature in Black Cats academy sides in recent seasons - but he earned his first experience of senior football when he joined Hebburn on loan during the second half of last season. Cameron returned to the South Tyneside club earlier this season on an initial one-month loan that has been extended until the end of the campaign.

The Sunderland youngster and his Hornets team-mates have impressed throughout the season and are firmly in the mix for what would be a first ever promotion into the National League North with the final three months of the season lying ahead. Cameron has kept eight clean sheets during his second stint with Daniel Moore’s side and has been an integral figure as they look to see off the challenges of the likes of Stockton Town, Hednesford Town and FC United of Manchester to secure the NPL Premier Division title.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s visit to Warrington Rylands, Hebburn boss Moore hailed Cameron’s ‘brilliant attitude’ as he continues to impress in the non-league game.

He said: “He wanted to come back when the opportunity arose and he’s got a brilliant attitude. He wanted to be part of the club, he wants to be part of something like this rather than playing academy football and you can’t fault the kid for that. We see academy players all of the time, they might think they are above non-league football and then when they come out of academies they realise they are nowhere near it. Dan is putting himself in a great position for his career going forwards and he’s giving himself a solid foundation to build on.”

Where that career takes Cameron remains to be seen - but a big decision is lying in wait for the youngster as his current Sunderland deal comes to an end this summer. A decision over his immediate future will be taken in the coming weeks and months as the highly-rated goalkeeper and a number of his Academy of Light team-mates learn their fate.
No matter what comes to pass for the stopper, Moore is adamant Cameron can go on and play at a high level as potential suitors will have noted his ‘background, attitude and willingness to go and play non-league football’.
“I think he has a really good career in the game,” explained the Hebburn boss. “You’ve always got to have a bit of luck along the way but with his background, the attitude and the willingness to go and play non-league football, clubs in the EFL will look at that as a massive plus point. Next year will be another stepping stone and I don’t know where he goes beyond that but I hope it is league football because for us to play a part in that journey would be massive for us too.”
