Jacob Devaney performance for St Mirren is clear message to Man Utd,'wonderful'moment should wow Michael Carrick

Jacob Devaney has been an immediate hit for St Mirren since joining on loan from Manchester United on transfer deadline day.

After a very strong campaign for Manchester United’s U21 side, the next step for Jacob Devaney was always going to involve a loan.

This move came as Devaney joined St Mirren on deadline day with the Scottish Premiership set to test him after academy football began to look a little too comfortable.

However, Devaney ran the show on his debut vs Hearts, who are the league leaders, as he helped inspire a win, proving he belongs in professional football already.

Now, Devaney has been in action again and it was another impressive performance.

Jacob Devaney has another impressive St Mirren performance

Devaney’s impressive debut saw plenty of praise from his United teammates and that is sure to continue after another dominant Airdrieonians 2-1 after extra time.

The United loanee played 63 minutes, departing as the scoreline read 1-0 to St Mirren courtesy of his goal in the Scottish FA Cup.

In the 19th minute, Devaney scored his first goal in professional football, and it was some strike to open his account.

After receiving the ball on the edge of the box, Devaney side-footed the ball into the far top corner, with effort clearly catching the goalkeeper off guard.

“Wonderful goal from Jacob Devaney,” Liam McLeod declared on commentary.

While on punditry for BBC Sport Scotland Callum Davidson said, “He won’t score a better goal than that”.

It was a brilliant goal, one what he will always remember, while the all-round performance was completely solid, looking quicker and stronger than the majority of players on the pitch.

So far, Devaney has looked exceptional at this level, but we are excited to see how he fares against the likes of Celtic and Rangers.

Speaking in the past few days, Devaney stated his desire to play for United at a first-team level, and the best way to achieve this is by clearing every test with flying colours, which is what he has been doing.

From U18 and then to being a standout with the U21s, Devaney proved himself to be one of the very best footballers in the youth ranks at Carrington, but he needed to show it on a broader stage, which St Mirren gave him the chance to do.

He is only two games into the loan and still has a lot of work to do, but so far the signs are resoundingly positive, and at this rate the 18-year-old should be a shoo-in to feature on the pre-season tour.

The Irishman is extremely motivated and his maturity is a massive plus, United will like what they see, as will current boss Michael Carrick who should be itching to get his hands on Devaney if he earns the permanent manager job.

Next up, Kilmarnock next week.
